What Is The Difference Between A Counterbalance And Reach Forklift?

There are different types of forklifts in an industrial setup. Each designed for its unique ability to perform a certain job. Counterbalance and reach forklifts are the two most commonly used for lifting, moving, and placing loads.

Counterbalance Forklift Trucks

The counterbalance forklift has a pair of forks on the front side. The vehicle can move closer to the load with the ability to drive up close to a load or pallet to pick it. There is a counterweight on the other side that compensates for the heavy load being lifted at the front.

Reach Forklift Trucks

The reach forklift is primarily designed to place and pick up loads from high racks in storage yards. They are very agile in handling and maneuverable. They can be fitted with a video camera to provide a view of the overhead racks to the operator. Both the forklifts can be powered by gas, diesel, or batteries.

As a forklift driver, it is highly recommended to get proper training and certification for both the counterweight and reach forklifts. Certified forklift operators are highly paid and are in very much demand across Canada.
