Job Description

The Hatch Metals & Mining group is seeking an Hydromet Mechanical EIT. Reporting to the Global Director, Hydrometallurgy you will support projects locally and globally based out of our Mississauga Head Office location.

Responsibilities:  

Must have

  • Good attitude, independence, and willingness to do what needs to be done and learn if required.  

Must have or ability to learn

  • How to compile and create specifications for the agitators, tanks, and instrumentation. Follow up and be the primary contact point for coordination with the vendors. 
  • Write a summary report outlining the Outotec, Quin and Tenova SX patents and how they might overlap with our design. 

Nice to have (ability to learn)

  • Create a rudimentary layout of the mixer settlers in MicroStation or another CAD package to understand the implications of arrangement on the equipment design. 
  • Create a solid edge model of the mixer box to confirm potential interferences with the agitator and tank during assembly and operation. (Basic solid modelling skills)
  • Performing a sensitivity analysis on the effects of the picket fence, piping, and valving on the head requirements of the mixer settler with Fathom/Mathcad
  • Basis stress calculations for structures, tanks, and piping (Caesar/Ansys). 
  • Basic understanding of materials of construction and corrosion.
  • Piping/vessel codes and standards (ASME/API)
  • Not be limited in their ability to travel to the US/overseas for inspections as required. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Looking for 5-8 years experience, with a Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or Extractive Metallurgy degree from an accredited University. 

  • Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community 

  • Previous experience, or coop or summer work terms within metallurgical or chemical process plants or engineering is an asset  

  • Academic or work experience with process modelling, process equipment and developing process engineering deliverables is an asset 

  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites including remote sites
