Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Office Person / Junior Inspector to join the Infrastructure group in our Highways & Bridges team in the Thunder Bay location, on a contract basis.

The Office Person / Junior Inspector shall perform the duties of both positions, as necessary. The Office Person duties shall be those typically performed by an Administrative Assistant in an office environment. The efficient functioning of the field office is a key component of the Contract Administration activity. The field office functions as a communications and records center in support of the Contract Administrator, the Project Manager, and other staff. The successful candidate in the office position must (in addition to the normally expected paperwork, communication and organizations requirements and the ability to meet deadlines independently and under pressure) be generally familiar with field construction activities.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Ensure that construction work is performed in accordance with the contract plans and specifications
  • Monitoring the constructed product for quality assurance
  • Understanding and interpreting the requirements and details of the contract drawings and specifications
  • Inspecting the work, materials means, and methods used in construction
  • Employing measuring and testing techniques in assessing contract compliance
  • Identifying and acting on any site, contractual and regulatory infractions
  • Assisting with the administration of the construction contracts
  • Tracking and reporting on the status of inspection activities
  • Maintaining daily records of construction activity and progress 

You bring to the role:

  • Civil engineering degree or diploma from a recognized university or college; or an OACETT designation; or a registered E.I.T with the PEO
  • Possess the ability to meet deadlines independently and under pressure
  • Be familiar with field construction activities and inspection tasks as per CAITM
  • Have sound knowledge of Design, Design Standards, OPS Specifications, and OPS drawings
  • Must have demonstrated experience on 2 or more similar MTO or municipal projects
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and regulations for construction projects
  • Must possess sound judgment; strong organizational, administrative, observational and problem-solving skills;
  • Effective interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills
  • Must have a valid Driver license
