Job Description

Hatch is seeking a licensed P. Eng. in the Greater Toronto area with a minimum of 5-15 years’ experience in the consulting industry to support environmental and occupational noise and vibration impact compliance studies. The candidate will be assessing the community impact of industrial noise and vibration in accordance with MECP, MTO, CEAA, and IFC guidelines. The candidate shall demonstrate knowledge and experience completing environmental and occupational noise and vibration exposure studies with a comprehension of modeling community noise, room acoustics, and ground borne vibration propagation with the capability of providing recommendations for effective mitigation measures.

 

The successful candidate will be a member of the Noise and Vibration team as part of the Mechanical Project Delivery Group.  The team operates independently on specific Noise and Vibration projects for a wide assortment of clients and as part of larger multi-discipline projects where there is a Noise/Vibration component.  As a team member, the candidate will have opportunities to implement novel analysis and control techniques, engage with clients and projects around the world, recommend evaluation processes, design mitigation solutions, manage projects, and interact with a diverse cross section of engineering professionals within Hatch across the Mining/Metals, Energy and Infrastructure sectors.

Responsibilities:

The candidate shall act independently as a Noise and Vibration Engineer with direct supervision from the Noise and Vibration lead and shall have, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities.

  • Complete noise and vibration measurement studies independently.
  • Perform impact studies and outline mitigation recommendations.
  • Perform noise and vibration assessments in support of rail and transit projects.
  • Modeling of room or building acoustics (STI, RT60 Calculations).
  • Traveling and conducting field work globally across a range of environments
  • Critically review and interpret local environmental and occupational regulations.
  • Management of small projects and client relationships. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or environmental science (or an equivalent).
    • A Master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in the consulting industry.
  • Professional registration as an engineer in Ontario
    • Consideration will be given to candidates with registration in a jurisdiction transferrable to Ontario.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist is considered an asset
  • Current member of the following associations is considered an asset.
    • INCE
    • CAA
    • CMVA or VI
  • Familiarity with industrial noise control specifications (i.e. Silencers, Mufflers and Attenuators)
  • Industrial field experience with noise measurements (i.e. Sound pressure and sound intensity)
  • Industrial field experience with vibration measurements (i.e. line/points source ground transfer mobility, machinery diagnostics, building response measurements)
  • Familiarity with environmental noise compliance assessments (MECP, MTO, CEAA and IFC)
    • Understanding of GO and TTC protocols is considered an asset.
  • Completion of associated impact studies with effective mitigation recommendations
