The House of Commons Parliamentary Precinct Operations (PPO) is currently looking to build a pool of potential candidates to staff various Short Order Cook positions on a seasonal on-call basis.

The Organization:

PPO is responsible for providing efficient and modern operational services to Members of Parliament and the House Administration while ensuring a functional work environment. This includes but not limited to the provision of services such as food services.

Food services provide various hospitality services to Parliamentarians and their staff, House Administration employees and visitors to the Hill. These services are offered by the Parliamentary Dining Room and cafeterias located in different buildings on the Hill. Food services also provide a full catering service for a variety of functions ranging from a simple coffee service to the complexities of a banquet.

About the Role:

The Short Order Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of foods that require only a short preparation time. This includes cooking or reheating Daily Specials for Cafeterias, taking orders from customers and serving clients at food stations.

More specifically, you takes and prepares all orders, customized to guests’ requirements for the assigned station, complies in accordance with standardized recipes and in pre-determined quantity as per instructions received from the Supervisors, Cafeteria PDR and Catering Services.

Hourly Rate: $20.04 to $25.36

Prerequisites

Education

High school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience;

Completion of a basic health and safety course and certification under the Food Safety Enhancement Program (FSEP) will be considered as an asset.

Experience

Experience in short order preparation and fast cooking techniques in a restaurant or a cafeteria;

Experience interacting directly and regularly with clients.

Competencies

Candidates will be evaluated against the House of Commons Administration Competency Framework – Operations group.
