About the Role:

The House of Commons Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and Corporate Security is currently looking to staff the Business Applications Support Officer position.

The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and Corporate Security assumes a ceremonial role; ensures efficient management of communications and information provided by the SAA-CS; maintains an effective liaison with clients, partners and the general public; and manages the Memorial Chamber.

The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and Corporate Security is responsible for providing critical corporate management services (e.g. leading strategic, business, financial, human resources and operational planning; monitoring, evaluation, policy coordination and oversight) and acts as a corporate change agent to continuously enhance the SAA-CS’s business performance and management practices.

The BASO provides desktop, IM and application support services, training and coaching to staff, as well as manages software, hardware and access permissions to network. The Officer also participates in the planning, development, testing and deployment of new hardware/software, applications, projects, and defect fixes and enhancements.

Prerequisites

Education

  • Successful completion of post-secondary education with diploma in Information Technology OR acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Experience

  • Experience in providing first-level support to users and clients by phone and e-mail on the resolution of issues with applications and/or systems;
  • Experience in the analysis of user requirements for applications;
  • Experience in developing and delivering training to users on new or enhanced applications;
  • Experience with the understanding of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office;
  • Experience working with different levels of client and able to adapt to different audiences and situations;
  • Experience working with computer hardware and peripherals.
  • Asset
  • Experience with software, application and testing;
  • Knowledge of security applications and/or systems;
  • Experience with SharePoint.

Outcome

Staff the position of Business Applications Support Officer on an indeterminate basis (permanent).
