About the Role:

The House of Commons Parliamentary Precinct Operations Services (PPO) is currently looking to staff the Shipper/Receiver position on a casual basis within Food Services.

PPO is responsible for providing efficient and modern operational services to Members of Parliament and the House Administration while ensuring a functional work environment. This includes but not limited to the provision of services such as food services.

The Shipper-Receiver is accountable for receiving, storing and shipping food, equipment, supplies and other merchandise to and from the Food Production Facility. Responsibilities include quantity and quality controls of the food received, knowledge and implementation of safe food handling and storing practices to prevent food-borne illness, packaging and identification of orders for different units through Parliament Hill and maintaining their equipment (carts, flat trucks and shelves) in good operating condition. The Shipper/Receiver is responsible for different administrative tasks such as inventory, transfers and receiving of invoices in the accounting program (ACCPAC) and entries of transportation in the Delivery system.

Position location: Ottawa, Ontario

Hourly Rate: $26.23 to $33.20

Prerequisites

Education

  • Secondary school graduation and acceptable combination of experience and training related to the position.
  • Certification to operate an electric pallet lift and/or able to obtain it in position.

Experience

  • Good knowledge of food products (quantity, size, provenance, characteristics, specific part of meat or fish, freshness of the food received, caliber, cut size, varieties and species, products common name, ripening and maturity of fruit and vegetables);
  • Experience in receiving and shipping, including the application of quality assurance to shipments;
  • Experience in detecting and handling anomalies on receipt of products.

Asset

Experience using a computer.

Outcome

Staff the position of Shipper/Receiver on a casual on-call basis (temporary).
