Job Description
The Control Systems Engineering Specialist II is the intermediate level technologist charged with maintaining and enhancing existing configurations by implementing new automation and protection systems and strategies to ensure physical refinery assets achieve peak availability and performance. This role troubleshoots operational issues, makes recommendations for improvement, contributes to designing and implementing changes and improvements to ensure optimum performance of plant assets and safe reliable operation. This role is responsible for supporting critical environmental monitoring and compliance systems, supporting and operating asset management systems for HSE critical networks and devices and maintaining the security and integrity of these systems. This role requires interacting with and modifying HSE critical systems which are often solely responsible for preventing severe incidents and which are essential in enabling operation of the Saint John Refinery. This role is required to demonstrate strategic thinking towards achieving optimal performance of the refinery assets via automation and protection systems.

Your roles and responsibilities:
- Develop and implement innovative and complex system integration, automation and control logic and safeguarding logic to enhance performance of the Refinery. Lead the implementation of those solutions through various development phases and manage the automation scope of workflow and project packages
- Lead commissioning, testing and verification activities performed by diverse teams of skilled contributors while filling the role of PCG group liaison. Ensure systems perform as required to prevent and mitigate HSE critical events.
- Execute maintenance and improvement activities for process automation and protection systems including configuration and programming activities. Manage various automation system contractors and represent Irving Oil Process Control Group in dealings with technical teams from outside organizations.
- Monitor automation system performance and develop solutions for optimization and to help improve efficiency. This includes developing and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance routines and activities. Execute life cycle and risk management activities and ensure appropriate actions are taken to prevent or minimize the effect and duration of hardware failures.
- Provide guidance to multi-discipline project and operations teams and helps support engineering teams develop work packages through providing design input and supporting HAZOP & LOPA activities.
- Implement and manage work flow processes to execute changes to enhance cyber security of critical systems and equipment and ensure continued operation of the automation systems

Education and experience
- NBSCETT PTech Certification, Red Seal is an asset.
- 10+ years of experience in IT including 5+ years industrial environment (refining preferred)
