Job Description

The Manager, Database and Middleware's primary accountabilities include supporting and enabling the TIS strategic objectives by helping business leaders run our assets Safely & Reliably, and by providing direction to leaders and teams accountable for the full database lifecycle within the AOS identified support areas.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead and engage in strategic planning, database modernization road mapping and rationalization, and seek and drive efficient solutions that continue delivery with quality.

  • Provide direction and mentoring to three supervisors who directly report into this Manager position and in turn manage internal DBAs and external service vendor teams providing database support. Provide clarity to teams and individual members on goals and expectations.

  • Manage all activities are performed within approved operational budget and capital funding and is accountable to meet or exceed budget expectations across labor, software maintenance and outside services.

  • Interact with the leadership team and collaborate with vendors on strategic initiatives, and project deliveries.

  • Set goals, establish KPIs, and continual measure against them to establish vendor’s accountabilities and drive for performance.

  • Provide direction to ensure support operations and configurations satisfy SoX, TSA, Security compliance requirements. Support incident response, service restoration, and change management.

  • Formulate and execute strategies to reduce overall database footprint and middleware support cost, which include license management, work management, and resource optimization.

  • Be the key contact for the TIS EMT and SMT for all AOS supported databases and middleware across BUs, representing standards, capabilities, and roadmap. Assess and communicate overall opportunities, roadblocks, and KPIs of the DBA teams in the larger context with peers and senior leaders.

  • Lead team meetings to discuss internal initiatives and customer projects statuses, adjust priorities, and cultivate an environment for two-way communication. Acknowledge team achievements. Collaborate and maintain positive rapport with customers.

  • Drive innovation from teams to become more efficient and stay current with today’s technologies and tools. Focus on automation and self-service model.

  • Play a key role in the growth and development of the entire Database / Middleware team and build the right capabilities for now and the future

  • Ensure approved projects are executed as per plan and business benefits realized

  • Make recommendations and own TIS’ database strategy. Advocate and support key principles and behaviors to foster Enbridge’s culture: Integrity, Safety, Respect, and Diversity & Inclusion.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in management information systems (MIS), computer science, information systems, or information technology.

  • Minimum of 15 years of working experience in information technology and business.

  • 8 - 10 years of supervisory experience with database management that includes both – management of internal teams and external vendor teams

  • In-depth knowledge of database technologies, architecture, and data security.

  • Knowledge of best practices in database management.

  • Advanced analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong business and financial acumen

  • Strong relationship building skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Comfortable, experienced and accomplished at working with business leaders and executive as a trusted partner
