Reporting to Lead, Engineering and Design, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for general mechanical engineering for the Bethune Ramp Up Project.
The position supports the Maintenance Engineering and Capital Projects Team to align on design basis, specifications, design criteria etc for all ramp up projects. The Ramp Up team is looking for multiple positions for this role of varying experience. Leadership of mechanical discipline will be required for more experienced applicants .
The Ramp Up program will be a long term strategic suite of feasibility level engineering projects to suit the overall ramp up of the Bethune mine including logistics and port facility modifications. The Mechanical Engineer will create designs for early stages of project development and be technical oversight for all external 3rd party engineering as projects progress and develop through the KSPC stage gate process.
This position will support technical engineering team from the Projects and Technology department as workloads requires, this will provide experience and exposure to detailed engineering and construction projects both at Bethune and Port Moody facilities.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Technical oversight of all mechanical, piping and HVAC conceptual designs for Ramp Up Feasibility projects
Creation and review of Material Take Offs, Capital Cost Estimates, Constructability Plans, etc
Review and/or develop engineering, drawings and documents in terms of feasibility, standards, codes, and K+S quality specifications
Maintain, update, and define K+S Bethune site design specifications and core documents for mechanical engineering scope within the Ramp Up project needs in coordination with Maintenance and Project Engineering departments
Evaluate new and existing technologies for their applicability to K+S Bethune’s mechanical infrastructure
Coordinate with maintenance engineering lifecycle planning efforts for consideration on future designs
Drive forward innovative and proven technologies for materials of construction and construction methodology including modularization

Mechanical Engineer (B.Sc , with ability to register as EIT or P.Eng with APEGS) with 2-10 years of experience
Experience in heavy industrial process setting is preferred
Ensures effective relationship building and communication skills within the department.
Displays a reasoned perspective and brings resolution to issues while considering all areas of impact.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to proactively resolve issues that arise.
Able to work well in a team environment and as an individual.
Demonstrates working knowledge of Saskatchewan Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
Experience with machine design and process equipment workings
Self motivated with proven leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
Strong written and verbal skills in English
Strong meeting facilitation skills
Potash experience is preferred
