Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Risk Management, the Senior Operational Risk Specialist (internally known as Risk Specialist, Sr.), will act in a 2nd line of defense (2LOD) capacity ensuring Fidelity’s operational risk and control frameworks, policies, standards and procedures are understood and used effectively to manage operational risk. This includes working collaboratively with all lines of businesses and divisions to identify, measure, monitor and mitigate operational risk.

You will promote a positive risk management culture within FCC while acting as a contact/escalation point between risk management, the business and various stakeholders. This role will require presentation and reporting to the Senior Management Team (SMT) as well as the FCC Risk Committee.

What You Will Do:

  • Supports large/complex risk programs/frameworks, projects & initiatives to ensure risks are appropriately mitigated. Programs include but are not limited to: Risk Register, Strategic Risk, Thematic Risk Reviews, Model and End User Computing (EUC) oversight.

  • Lead the development of new risk programs, stay informed on risk management best practices and principles, and drive enhancements to current programs.

  • Provides analysis, monitoring, and challenge to identify areas for improvement and remediation by business units in order to support a sound operational environment.

  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal stakeholders, evaluates new operating models and internal controls.

  • Consults and supports incident and error assessments to ensure a robust control environment, provides action plan review and recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of internal controls.

  • Communicate assessment results, gaps and recommendations, improvement opportunities and action plans to management on a regular basis.

  • Assist in the execution of Risk Framework monitoring, reporting and governance/escalation

  • Foster a strong risk culture within the organization, working closely with business unit leaders and senior management.

  • Assist with continuous improvement of risk programs, processes and policies.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5 years of related experience within the financial services industry, preferably in risk management

  • Experience in the brokerage or custodian/clearing industry an asset

  • Experience gathering, documenting and analyzing business processes an asset

  • Completion of a University Degree

  • CSC and CPH preferred

  • CFA, FRM, and/or other risk management designations would be and asset

  • Understanding of the clearing business and knowledge of operational functions and processes.

  • Sound knowledge of risk management processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills as well as effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.

  • Analytical, research, and investigatory skills.

  • Ability to build relationships across the organization to deliver results.

  • Highly capable to influence internal stakeholder functional groups to adopt new practices or revise existing practices.
