Sayre School is accepting applications for a Lower School Art Teacher to fill our large, light-filled art room with joyful learning. We are looking for someone who will encourage children to be empathic, fearless, and curious artists as they investigate the world around them through an innovative, process-based curriculum. Strong candidates will have a passion for visual culture and be committed to creating intellectual and creative space for children to ask questions and explore possibilities through a broad range of art materials. Individuals applying for this position should also possess an understanding of young children’s artistic development and sensitivity to nurturing their natural ingenuity and sense of wonder. We are a school that values play and discovery at every age level and we weave that into the creative experience. Although our art program is guided by National Standards, this position requires one to also be a flexible, creative collaborator as our art teacher routinely works closely with classroom teachers and community organizations to integrate the art experience with classroom research, project work, and diversity initiatives. The Art teacher is also responsible for organizing a lively and robust Lower School art exhibit.
Personal qualities desired include:
The Art Room in our new building is a teacher’s delight and provides drop-down outlets, creative project space, 5 sinks, storage, a kiln, and a clay room.
