Job Description

The City of West Kelowna is looking to fill two Parks Operator I positions to perform forest fuel management work. Working within the City’s numerous wooded parks and road right of ways, the crew will collect and dispose of dead trees, pine needles, leaves and various tree debris accumulations. The two-person crew will operate trucks, chainsaws, chippers and pruning tools. These positions will work four months and commence in May until August 2022.

Our ideal candidate:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Occupational First Aid Level I
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience performing fuel management work
  • Knowledge and previous experience operating various pieces of equipment such as, chainsaws, weed eaters, lawnmowers, saws, power pruners trucks, trailers chippers a variety of hand tools, etc.
  • Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outside in the presence of all types of weather conditions
  • Necessary knowledge of safe working and operating procedures related to equipment and tools and work procedures required to assure public safety
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Able to courteously deal with the public and co-workers under stressful conditions and/or tight timelines
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License with a heavy trailer endorsement is preferred
