Job Description

As a Compensation Manager you will support, provide input to, implement, and administer HOOPP’s compensation programs.  You will research, develop, and recommend enhancements to compensation policies and practices that support the growth of the organization.  In this role you will partner with other HR professionals to support the business in achieving divisional

objectives by providing sound and relevant compensation advice and recommendations to attract and retain key talent. This role reports to the VP, Total Rewards.

What you will do:

Compensation Program Design & Management

  • Ensure compensation programs are fair, competitive, and legally compliant

  • Implement, administer, and communicate short- and long-term incentive compensation plans to employees

  • Responsible for the rollout and communication of incentive plan objectives and targets to employees via grants and notices.

  • Administer the annual salary review process for all employees, as well as pay mix, retention and bonus programs

  • Partner with HOOPP’s internal communications team to review and update salary review and incentive communication materials

  • Ensure administration of compensation programs is aligned with HOOPP’s policies and guidelines

  • Prepare complex analyses to support/recommend program changes, report compliance and support pay decisions

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and forecasting analyses on a quarterly basis. Partner with other areas of HR to ensure employee data is current and relevant

  • Work with external consultants to provide compensation design, market data, and legal advice, and ensure results are tailored to HOOPP’s needs

  • Lead the design and maintenance of HR policies and procedures related to compensation

  • Consult with and provide recommendations to HR partners and divisional leaders on topics such as pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation, and design of creative compensation program solutions to support divisional objectives

  • Prepare and present analyses, recommendations, and presentations to senior leaders and Executives, as required

  • Support HR Partners with salary recommendations and incentive calculations for current employees and new hires​

Job evaluation and market data

  • Evaluate jobs using approved methodology, collaborating with HR partners to ensure roles are valued fairly across HOOPP, with the aim of supporting leaders in executing strategy through a functional organization design

  • Prepare pay recommendations based on job and organization design, market data, and internal equity

  • Recommend salary increase budgets and changes to ranges

  • Stay current on trends in compensation related to laws, market practice, and governance issues

Annual Year-end Compensation Process

  •  Lead the annual year-end compensation process

  • Responsible for the technology platforms used to deliver the annual incentive award and salary review programs, including contributing to requirements, developing and prioritizing improvements, coordinating with IT, and testing and approving system changes

  • Partner with internal HR partners to ensure HOOPP’s human capital management system supports compensation-related activities

  • Develop and roll out the communication strategy, timelines and materials to senior management, HR colleagues and all other employees

  • Develop and facilitate compensation education and training programs

  • Prepare analysis, recommendations, and related materials to support CEO and Executive team compensation

  • Partner with HR Business Partners in the rollout of year-end related activities

  • Lead the preparation of audit materials for external auditors, including reconciliations

Research and Market Research

  • Work with other members of the Total Rewards team to ensure HOOPP’s compensation policies are compliant with government regulations

  • Maintain a pulse on industry and market intelligence for compensation trends

  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with peer pension plans regarding human resources issues and compensation

  • Develop complex analyses of HOOPP’s pay position relative to the market

  • Recommend changes to salary structures and position movements to maintain HOOPP’s desired pay position relative to the market

  • Recommend annual salary increase budget

Board and Committee Reporting

  • Supports the preparation of compensation-related Board and Committee materials

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • CCP or SHRM certification preferred

  • 7 – 10 years relevant experience in compensation

  • Extensive knowledge of compensation programs, policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.

  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytic and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent computer skills including with advanced MS Office

  • Experience managing compensation in a Human Capital Management (HCM) System

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Business acumen, collaboration, and client-focused mentality to develop and strengthen business relationships

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

  • Significant judgement and maturity in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information

  • Superior project management skills including the ability to manage complex processes in a diplomatic and professional manner
