Job Description
The Compliance and Ethics (CE) function is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and resourceful Principal for the program involving the management of financial crime risks such as money laundering, terrorist financing, corruption/bribery, sanctions and external fraud, with a focus on the enhancement of the financial crimes program within Compliance and leading the engagements on multiple projects with the business. You will be reporting to the Director, Financial Crimes Compliance and an integral part of a growing team of compliance professionals who are focused on continuous improvement to enterprise-wide controls for the detection, assessment, mitigation and management of financial crime risks. Your keen analytical skills, sound judgment, financial and business acumen will be valuable assets in carrying out assignments.

Responsibilities
- Assist the Director in the development of the financial crimes program through effective communication with business units and active participation in projects and discussions aimed at evolving the overall compliance culture;
- Lead projects with notable risk and complexity; develop the strategy for project execution; Anticipate business and regulatory issues; recommend/drive product, process or service improvements;
- Communicate complex ideas, anticipate potential objections and persuade others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view;
- Plays a leading role in the preparation of reports to Senior Management and the Board of Directors, including the identification of metrics on the status of financial crime risks and controls;
- Acts as a lead advisor on financial crime risks and controls based on thorough understanding of customers’ business processes; Responsible for identifying and evaluating financial crime risks and controls within EDC's business and implementing controls in collaboration with business teams;
- Responsible for evaluating and testing the effectiveness of financial crime controls;
- Responsible for providing risk assessments to internal customers for activities that present financial crime risks;
- Create and prepare memos and reports communicating regulatory updates of compliance issues for distribution internally or to various committees in a concise and professional manner;
- Leverage case learnings to identify improvements to financial crime controls and targeted monitoring options for other potential cases of financial crime;
- Maintain positive relationships with team members and clients by demonstrating productivity, initiative, willingness to learn, flexibility, respect, cooperation and commitment to the success of CE;
- Cross train and provide back-up to other CE team members as required;
- Ability to act as back-up to Director Financial Crimes from time to time.
Screening Criteria
- Bachelors degree, MBA or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ work experience in advising on, investigating, or leading managing financial crime risk projects
- Minimum 15 years of experience in financial institutions or regulatory authorities
- Excellent proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel
- Sound knowledge of financial crime industry regulation and terminology
- Certification in financial crimes eg CAMS or equivalent
Assets
- Experience with identification and investigation of fraud by external players against an organization
- Experience in Financial industry, specifically in Insurance Services or Trade Based Money Laundering advisory
- Legal training
- Anti-money laundering, Anti-fraud, forensic accounting or accounting designations
- Knowledge of both official languages (English and French)
Salary
- Principal: $106,500 - $159,700 + performance-based incentive
